Don't be an dick - we're all just here to have fun.
Obey the law - we don't have enough bail money. Obey all traffic and other laws.
Routes - The schedule lists daily starts, finishes, and optional challenges. It’s your job to pick which roads get you there.
You are liable - What you’re doing here can be dangerous. You’ve made the decision to do it anyway, and you understand and accept that you’re responsible for what happens as a result.
Car
Standard car cost $1,000
If you find a car for less than $1,000, you will get extra points.
The $1,000 includes Tax/Tag/Title
Points will be added/deducted if you go over/under the price of the car.
If you can fix the car yourself great, but any cost (parts/labor/etc) must be accounted for
Insurance - you are required by law to get insurance for any car driven on the road. Check your insurance plan, some will give you a 14 - 30 day waiver, you can add it to your current plan, or you can purchase temp insurance.
Someone in the car must have the title to the car. (so you cannot rent it - someone on the team needs to own the car)
The car will be destroyed at the end if you do not meet the minimum points. (so if you got a really great deal on a 2021 BMW - you might want to get another car - understand it will likely get crushed at the end)
The car will have a car/team name as well as a mascot
You can save your car from being a tank toy by getting a minimum number of points.
The cars will be "donated" to Tank Town USA where we will run over all of the cars with a Tank, The winning team will get to do the car crush.
Points
The goal of the Race is to get the most amount of points
The team with the most points at the end will win and get to drive over the cars with the tank.
Each car will submit at least 1 phone into the group chat - this will be used for car communications.
Each car will be identified by the car name
A challenge picture can only be used one time (example if you get to the Biloxi light house, that cannot used as the same light house as your generic light house pic)
Once you complete a challenge, you don’t get points for doing it again, unless specifically called out. (if you wrestled an alligator and got the points, wrestling another one won't get you additional points)
For proof of time based items the picture must be send to the group chat.
The time stamp will be when the group gets the picture. If you don't have service - sorry for your luck.
On team votes - the votes happen on the last day or end of day, each car gets 1 vote and the vote will be given by the team Capitan. (Don't be a jerk and vote for yourself)
For the photo pics - you need proof your car was there - so you need to include either your car/mascot/team member/etc - some sort of proof.
Once you check into the final checkpoint/spot of the day you cannot earn any more points for that day.
At the end of each day, the captains will ensure their team's score is accurate.
The only way to save your car is to get the minimum number of points before the end.
Team
A team consists of a car and a captain. The team captain is untimely responsible for their team and has authority to make decisions on behalf of the team.
Team consist of 2-5 people - the team can decide how they make decisions, what routes they take, what they do or do not participate in, etc. (this is part of your team strategy)
The teams can pick their own members.
All costs are associated with the team.
All points are awarded to the team.
Route
There will be a destination end point at the end of every day - Each car MUST physically check in to the end of day checkpoint by 8pm at the latest.
Each car must install a location tracking app for each car to follow (this is for safety and for points tracking)
What if my car breaks Down?
If your car breaks down and you are unable to fix it, you have the following options:
You must dispose of your car (sell it to someone/junk yard, get it towed, etc - up to the team, but do it right and legally)
Your team can decide to go home and forfeit all your points
Another team can pick up the members of your team.
The team members can be split out.
The points earned up to that point will be divided by the number of people in the car, the car that picks up the members will get those points.
Ex: if a team has 4 members and 100 points, each member will be worth 25 points, the car(s) that pick up each person will get 25 points per person they pick up.
If you are unable to fix your car, but you think another car/team might be able to help you, you can wager points (or whatever else) with another car.
The points or other items wagered are up to the two teams.
Entry Fees
Entry: $___ per team (includes one car and up to five drivers). (this does not include the $1,000 car)
Entry Fees include:
Each car will be provided a welcome kit.
Hotel for each night (hotel rooms are based on 1 room per car - if you want more than 1 room per car - this will need to be coordinated 30 days prior and additional cost are on you.
Safety Car Rental
Tank Drive
Flights home are not included in this cost - however see the Important Info tab for flight info
Eligibility
Vehicle eligibility - Open to anything street-legal and road-insured.
Participant eligibility - A full, valid, and current street license is required for drivers.
Safety
Organizers can make any change to routes, schedules, vehicles, teams, etc. This is not a debate—either do it, or go home.
Roadworthiness - Teams are responsible for ensuring their vehicles are roadworthy and free from dangerous defects at all times. We do not perform an inspection of vehicles and makes no assurances or guarantees regarding any vehicle’s condition, safety, or fitness.
Emergency Supplies - Every vehicle should carry a decent first-aid kit and 24 hours’ supply of food and water for everyone in it.
Other Supplies - Bring spare parts, a toolbox, a spare battery, flares, a cellphone or tablet for posting your challenges, radios, a pint of oil, some duct tape, whatever you want... Just make sure to bring a good attitude.
Scoring
Points will be awarded according to the points board. The organizers can give extra points for vehicle awfulness, team hopelessness, general hilarity, etc.
Once you check into the final checkpoint of the day (where you will gain your 1st, 2nd, 3rd place points for arriving the fastest) you can no longer receive points for the day for the optional challenges. (so get those posted first)
Optional Challenges: Each day has scenic, historic, and/or weird checkpoints/challenges with various point values. You probably can’t hit them all, so just pick the routes and challenges that appeal. To be scored, take a pic of your car (or mascot) in front of the checkpoint/challenge and post it online.
Challenge points are for the digitally literate - Find a 12-year-old kid with an iPhone or just read our Checkpoint/ Challenge Posting guide.
Mascots - Since it’s hard to get a pic of your car or team members at some checkpoints/challenges, teams also carry their own hand-held mascot. Pics of either get you credit for the checkpoint or challenge, but car pics are eligible for more bonus points—so take car pics when you can.
Awesomeness Points - Additional points at the organizers’ discretion for excellent photos/videos/web posts you share with us; for super-mensch behavior; for heroic repairs; for adventures above and beyond; and for anything else we deem atypically awesome.
Winners! the winning team is the team with the most points at the end of the rally - they also get to run over all of the cars with the tank
The ones that come after 1st place - the 3 teams with the least amount of points, have to remove the fluids of the top 3 cars on tank driving day. (unless there is a tie breaker needed - see tie breaker rules)
Tie Breaker - if there is a tie breaker needed - the winner of the tie will be the car that can run the longest after all the fluids are drained. We drain the fluids the day of the tank crushing, after all fluids are out (for environmental reasons) whichever car is able to start and run the longest wins the tie. If neither car starts - we'll have the team captains do a series of challenges.
End of Trip Bonus Points
The points will be awarded to the car.
Each person present will be able to cast a vote.
You can't vote for your own.
The votes will happen before we decide the winners and drive over the cars.
For each of the best of categories - the team will submit one pic to be considered/voted on (if there are 6 cars, there will be 6 pics to vote on)
Other Notes
While you have to check into the check-in places a the end of the day to calculate your points - you do not have to stay at the suggested hotels. If you want to stay at a 5 star resort - fine, if you want to camp out - that’s OK too, if you want to Air B&B a large house and go in with a few cars/teams - up to you. Just let the organizer know ahead of time, as they will be booking rooms at a group rate.
Bring whatever you want - your own entertainment, CB Radios, items to help you on challenges, props to help with your pics, just remember you have to get them back home or toss them. If you are taking a flight back remember there are airline restrictions.
